What is Towards AI?

Since 2019, Towards AI has provided an open platform for sharing information, educational content and research on AI, with a goal to foster constructive discourse and make AI accessible at any experience level. It has more than 2,000 contributing writers and benefits from hundreds of thousands of followers in the AI community.

The platform is a leading educational resource and community space for AI leaders, practitioners, students and enthusiasts. Towards AI strives to publish unbiased AI and technology-related articles and to work only with sponsors on highly relevant content and in a transparent manner.

Why Should You Consider Becoming a Contributor With Towards AI?

  • Any article published with us is added to our queue and then shared to our website & Medium platforms, across our social networks (270k+ followers) and our Medium subscribers (25k+) automatically.
  • As a contributor, your article will also be re-shared across our social networks and available for new readers to access via search and archive on our website.
  • We select our Article of the Week along with 1–4 other highlights from our contributors to be featured in our weekly AI newsletter sent to over 73,000 subscribers.
  • If your article is behind Medium’s paywall, you can earn revenue through the Medium Partner Program and keep 100% of your earnings.
  • You can also publish articles without paywalls, and these now qualify for curation as well.
  • Network with our extensive community.
  • Improve as a writer by receiving editorial feedback as necessary.

Disclosures:

  • Due to financial regulations, we do not accept content related to finance, the stock market, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, trading, valuation or investing.
  • If your company has received funding and has an open-source version of its software, we still consider your piece as sponsored. Please use our sponsors’ form to submit it, and our editors will review it.
  • All of our articles are from their respective authors and may not reflect the views of Towards AI Inc., its editors, or its other writers. For full terms, please visit our terms of service page.

Guidelines

  • Please submit unpublished drafts with at least five minutes of reading time (850+ words, exceptions to this guideline may be made by our editors depending on the quality of the piece).

  • Make sure your story has meaning — give more than you get.
  • Please utilize a grammar and readability tool such as Grammarly. If your article has too many grammatical errors, it won’t be accepted.
  • Please make sure to follow Medium’s curation guidelines — you’ll have a better chance for your piece to be curated. If you are part of the Medium partner program, you’ll be able to generate revenue. If your article does not have a paywall, it still qualifies for curation.
  • For accessibility purposes, please include ALT text to describe your images, and please use discernible links on your article’s hyperlinks. For example, instead of saying “you can find the code here,” say, “you can find the code on GitHub.” To learn more about discernible links, please visit this guide by Oregon State University on descriptive links.
  • If your article talks about an AI startup, company, or product, we invite you to become a Towards AI sponsor. You’ll be supporting our efforts to publish new content, build and maintain products and resources valuable to the AI community and continue to back our contributors.

Topics of interest to our audience

Our audience is primarily interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology-related topics. While this might sound straightforward, it’s incredibly broad! As AI applications infiltrate farther into nearly every facet of modern life, there’s no shortage of subject matter. We encourage analyses of larger ethical and social impacts of your chosen topic. These are important for challenging both you and your readers to better understand the relationships that define your topic, just as these impacts will continue to define humanity’s greater relationship with technology.

When choosing a topic, we encourage writing about things that haven’t yet been covered by other articles. You can check for this by searching the topic on our site to see if it’s been written about already. While repetition is okay in some cases, we strive to produce novel content for our audience. If you’re choosing a classic topic, try putting your own spin on it to bring fresh ideas to the table.

FAQ

Medium Featured My Article. Can I add it to Towards AI as well?

Yes, absolutely. When you add your story to a publication, you add a whole new audience to it (in our case, our followers on Medium, our connections, and our social media followers). Your story will continue to be promoted by Medium on its homepage and others, depending on Medium curators.

What about the Medium Paywall?

Our authors have the freedom to publish with no paywalls or through the Medium paywall. Both types of articles are promoted in the same way, and both qualify for curation under Medium.

Does Towards AI Keep a Percentage of My Earnings?

No. Authors keep 100% of their earnings through the Medium Partner Program.

Ready to submit your article?

Please send us your article (a link to a Medium draft), with a link to your LinkedIn profile or CV through the website below. Please don’t forget to check your article with a grammar checker such as Grammarly to improve your article’s grammar and readability.

Have questions not addressed in this article?

Please email us, we’ll try to get back to you as soon as time permits.

Once you’ve published your first article with us, you are considered a writer with Towards AI and can submit your post directly through Medium.

  • We apologize for any delays in feedback regarding submissions. We receive several articles per day, and we try to get back to prospective authors as soon as we can.
  • We reserve the right to edit your article if necessary.
  • We try our best to publish submitted articles within 1–3 business days after being approved for publishing.
  • Please note that we only accept Medium-originated articles, no PDFs and no links to other domains.

Thank you kindly in advance for your time and consideration. We look forward to making Towards AI a home for your articles!
