Business Analytics or a Data Science Degree?
Why a degree in business analytics might be a better option than a degree in data science
I. Introduction
Most data-related academic training programs come in different flavors such as Data Science Master’s, Data Analytics Masters, or Business Analytics Masters. Before deciding on a given area of specialization, it is important to understand the difference between the different degree options or specializations. In this article, we focus on comparing a Data Science Masters with a Business Analytics Masters. We start by examining the typical curricula for Data Science and Business Analytics programs, then later we shall discuss the pros and cons of each program. The data science curriculum is from UC Berkeley’s Master of Information and Data Science program, while for the business analytics program, we used the University of Tulsa’s Master of Science in Business Analytics curriculum as case studies.
